But first, it is very important to know what kidney stones actually are.
What are Kidney Stones?
Kidney stones are collections of salt and of minerals that are made up of uric acid and calcium. They are formed in the kidneys and can also travel to the other parts of the urinary tract. Stones can be different in size. The size can vary from the size of a period to as big as the size of a few inches. Some of the kidneys can grow so big that they can become the size of the kidney itself.
The stones are formed after the accumulation of the minerals and sit in the urine. When a person drinks less water, the urine becomes thick and concentrated which causes the minerals to assemble and results in the occurrence of kidney stones. These are most commonly observed in males than females.
The Major Signs of Kidney Stones
If a person has a small kidney stone then there are chances that there will be no symptoms or signs as such that indicate their presence. But if the size of the stone is big it can even block the passage of the urine. The major signs that you need to notice include ar mentioned below.
Kidney stone pain is also known as renal colic is something that you would never want to experience. It is unimaginably bad and can be severe to a level where you want t run away or disappear.
It almost feels like someone is stabbing you with a knife. The pain can get quite intense and hurt pretty bad. The pain starts when the stones start to move. They move from the kidney to the ureter blocking the passage and causing the pressure in the kidney to build up.
The pain is usually felt in waves where it comes and goes. It happens when the ureter keeps contracting to push out the stone that is inside.
When a healthy person urinates, the urine is never smelly and doesn’t have an odor that is strong. Cloudy urine can be a sign of infection in the kidneys or it also can indicate an infection in any other part of the urinary tract.
It is also noticed that the people with kidney stones are also people that have UTIs more often than the ones that have never had kidney stones. If a person is suffering from UTIs along with kidney stones then in this case, it is made necessary that there is surgery performed.
Having blood in the urine is one of the common symptoms and signs of kidney stones. This is also known as hematuria. The blood color can be brown, pink, or red. Your doctor can test the urine again and again if the blood is not visible.
Sometimes, a test doesn’t indicate the presence of the blood and in this case, you can focus on the other symptoms that might indicate kidney stones.
3. Burning Urine
If the stone present in the kidney moves and gets between the ureter and the bladder then there are high chances that you will start to feel pain and a burning sensation in the urine. And trust me that is excruciating to a point where you want to just get rid of the urination altogether.
The doctors call it dysuria. This pain is sharp and the burning might feel like someone has lit a fire to your private part. A lot of people then feeling that pain and burning sensation start calling it a urinary tract infection when it actually isn’t.
